I’ve been deep in the world of layered neutrals, washed linens, and soft, sculptural shapes. Here are a few pieces I’m currently lusting over — all timeless, tactile, and perfect for creating a bed that feels both lived-in and elevated.
1. Cultiver Mira Linen Bedcover in Ana
Price: $350
This heirloom-inspired linen cover has an airy weight and beautiful contrast stitching. It feels equal parts tailored and relaxed — perfect for a textured top layer that doesn’t feel too heavy.
2. Oliver Gustav Linen Bedspread in Marmo
Price: €495 (~$530 USD)
A sculptural, oversized bedspread with a crushed, vintage texture. This one leans moody and refined, like something pulled from an old European apartment — and I’m into it.
3. Zara Home Embroidered Linen Bedspread
Price: $199
Lightweight with subtle embroidery, this one adds a gentle pattern without feeling too precious. A great layering piece if you want that effortless “I just threw this on” feel.
4. Matteola Vintage Linen Bolster Cover
Price: $120
I love the look of one long bolster on a bed — and this cover, made from vintage European linen, has that worn-in softness that looks better the more you use it.
5. Cloudknits Oversized Italian Cashmere Jersey Blanket in Oat
Price: $650
The ultimate indulgence: Italian cashmere in a jersey knit. Drapes like a dream, and looks as good folded at the foot of the bed as it feels curled around your shoulders.
6. Jenni Kayne Luna Lumbar Pillow in Natural
Price: $295
This oversized lumbar is an easy way to finish the bed without a million pillows. It’s simple, sculptural, and grounded in that classic California-cool aesthetic.
7. Tekla Odette Pillow Sham
Price: $90
Handcrafted from organic cotton in a delicate percale weave and lightly stone‑washed for a soft‑crisp finish, this pillow sham features a refined rectangular border enhanced with a classic needle‑lace technique that adds timeless texture and elegance.
I grew up in Brooklyn NY in the 1960s, and the bolsters on our beds were structured and hollow, and that’s where we stuffed our sleeping pillows when we made our beds in the morning, so there were only 2 things on our beds: a fancy embroidered bedspread, and, at the head, the bolster, covered in the same matching embroidered fabric, which hid our pillows. That’s it. In this age of layers upon layers of blankets and throws on beds topped by a mountain range of different size pillows, how I crave the simplicity and the functionality of that childhood bolster. I keep searching for it, but it must be out of style because no one makes it anymore. I guess I’ll have to commission someone to make it for me. Fortunately, my home is a perfect time capsule 1961 MCM, so the bolster will look right at home on my bed. Thank you for reminding me about this piece of decor from my childhood that I want to resurrect.
